AMA Queensland Foundation is committed to breaking down the barriers to healthcare for children by funding a vital project that will help improve the health of Indigenous Queenslanders in rural and remote areas. The project aims to significantly improve access to ENT surgical services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children for the treatment and management of hearing health.
Imagine having a child with hearing difficulties which undoubtedly have a lifelong negative impact unless treated, yet not having the financial means to do so. Unfortunately, for many Indigenous children living here in remote areas of Australia, this is how they live – held back from school and childhood experiences because their parents can’t access treatment when needed. Sadly some parents have to choose between putting food on the table or paying for treatment, due to long waitlists for this much-needed surgery.
Working in conjunction with the North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health, and CheckUP Australia, AMA Queensland Foundation will fund procedures for 20 children. The first clinic funded by the Foundation will commence in 2016 at the Sunshine Coast where patients will be transported from remote areas of Australia.
But we can’t fund this work without your help. AMA Queensland Foundation’s 2015 Christmas Appeal will be launched on Friday 6 November and is one of the Foundation’s top priorities. Your support is urgently needed to help raise $55,000 before 31 January 2016. Please give generously this Christmas by donating today at https://www.amaqfoundation.com.au/donation/
