Beddown's The Good Night Initiative

Success! Your request has been sent and a representative will be in contact soon.

Since we last met with the Beddown team at our Gala Night and following the AMA Queensland Foundation donation in December 2023, the team have been working hard to support people sleeping rough.

At the start of 2024, Beddown recognised a range of emerging challenges that meant they had to reassess proceeding with the female-only venue at their headquarters. Challenges included increasing construction costs, overarching cost-of-living constraints (impacting ongoing fundraising) and, most challenging, the proposition that their crisis accommodation would become uninsurable in the near future.

Adept at shape-shifting to support their vision, the Beddown team has launched The Good Night Initiative, kicking off with 1,000 bed nights in vacant hotel rooms for single adults sleeping rough on the streets of our cities and towns.

Working with trusted community organisations highly experienced in ensuring people sleeping rough can access pathways to sustainable housing, Beddown is providing an immediate relief response, with health and wellbeing support at its heart.

Watch this video to learn more about The Good Night Initiative so far, and meet Keith who experienced the first bed night to learn more about the immediate benefits created by this project for people sleeping rough.

The Good Night Initiative continues until we hit our target of 1,000 bed nights, following which good night sleeps for single adults sleeping rough will continue through a Queensland Government hotel accommodation program coming online.

Beddown sincerely thanks the AMA Queensland Foundation supporters for their incredible donation contributing to these 1,000 bed nights for people sleeping rough.
