Join us in shaping the future of healthcare in Queensland.

Studying medicine is a significant commitment and can be tough without financial help. AMA Queensland Foundation recognises the difficulty that medical students can face while studying their degree, and has been offering scholarships to Queensland medical students experiencing financial hardship for the past twenty years. Through the generosity of donors during our Appeals, the Foundation has provided more than $545,000 in financial assistance to thirty-five medical students across the State.

In 2024, the Foundation received a record 84 submissions through our scholarship application process, more than triple those of the previous year. With only three scholarship places available, it was heart-wrenching to choose just three. To help us extend our ability to provide more scholarships going forward, AMA Queensland Foundation launched a new inaugural initiative in 2024, Sponsor one Student (SoS).

About the SoS Program

SoS is an invitation to partner with us to make a significant difference in one student's life, and to the future of Queensland's healthcare, by sponsoring a $10,000 AMA Queensland Foundation Medical Student Scholarship in your name.

In 2024 we were able to award our first SoS Medical Student Scholarship to Anna Duan (pictured above). Anna received the $10,000 scholarship through the generous contributions of Indian Medical Association Queensland donors.

“Being awarded the AMA Queensland Foundation scholarship is life changing. It allows me to focus on my medical education, alongside extracurricular and placement experiences, without feeling the constant pressure of needing to find additional work to meet my basic needs.”

How it works

  • Applications. AMA Queensland Foundation runs a comprehensive application process to identify students in need.

  • Scholarship naming. Work with us to feature your name or your organisation’s name as sponsor of the scholarship.

  • Promote your impact. Gain recognition through our media announcements and program updates.

  • Support future doctors. Hear about the achievements of the student you sponsor and see the tangible impact of your contribution.

As we are a registered charity, your contribution (over $2) to AMA Queensland Foundation’s Scholarship Program is tax deductible.

Your contribution can make a difference.

  • Support emerging talent. Help remove financial barriers for deserving medical students.
  • Strengthen healthcare. Contribute to building a stronger and more diverse healthcare workforce.
  • Positively position your brand and values. Demonstrate your social responsibility, philanthropy as well as your company’s leadership in supporting education and community wellbeing.

Sponsoring a student ensures that a bright and motivated individual who might otherwise not continue medicine, can have a better chance. Enabling them to focus on their education and make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

What’s more, by improving access to study medicine for students from various experiences and backgrounds, we foster greater diversity in our medical workforce. This has a ripple effect not only in the lives of these medical students, but the Queensland communities they hope to serve.

We invite you to learn more about the Sponsor one Student (SoS) Program and understand how you can partner with us to invest in a future doctor.
